The fortunate tune that Domenico Modugno entrusted to Aurelio Fierro's voice for the 1957 Naples Festival inaugurated a score of female figures that have become the subject of as many songs. Some of these women have a name, others a nickname mostly coinciding with an endearing term which accentuates the emotional and sometimes paternalistic tones of the lyrics. In the collection, songs of love and regret go hand in hand with cheerful and comic songs in the cafè-chantant tradition.
