The beach songe

The ‘beach’ song phenomenon began in the early 1960s and is one of the most visible signs of the economic boom, inasmuch as it highlighted the sense of elation generated by holidays for the masses (something absolutely new for Italians). It transformed the beach into a terrain of amorous conquests, a dance floor, a place of transgression where love flowered and died over one season. It is often associated with films and comedies, physical coming-of-age and seasonal dances, and with an emerging youth culture. The record industry captured these signals and transformed them into market hits destined to become classics, fuelling the myth of the Fabulous Sixties. The collection includes fifty hit records, rarities, covers, original songs, twist songs, surf songs, slow songs and some examples of the 1980s revival. The performers range from the stars of the time (some still working today) to one-hit wonders who exploited the wave (!) and then disappeared into the sunset...
